The truth is that the above are all triggers. It is our subconscious beliefs about these situations that create our response.

For example take 100 people who have challenging jobs.

Some may suffer from severe stress, some may feel it motivates them and some may take it all in their stride.

The trigger is the same, but our response is created by our beliefs.

Beliefs can be healthy or unhealthy. Unhealthy beliefs lead to unhealthy thought, feelings, behaviour and symptoms

Unhealthy beliefs are rigid, unrealistic, don’t make sense and don’t help you. Unhealthy beliefs are usually in the form of musts, should or have to.

Take for example someone at work whose unhealthy belief is “I must complete all my work, if I don’t , its awful, like the end of the world, I can’t stand it, I am useless and a complete failure.

The person with this belief is going to feel stressed for the majority of the time as pressure at work often means that we cannot always complete everything.

A healthier belief will create a different response, they are not likely to suffer from stress.
